Midwives Model of Care

The Midwives Model of Care: Midwifery Care is Different

The Midwives Model of Care™ is a fundamentally different approach to pregnancy and childbirth than modern obstetrics. Midwifery care is uniquely nurturing, hands-on care before, during, and after birth. Midwives are healthcare professionals trained to provide comprehensive prenatal care, guide labor and birth, address complications, and care for the newborn. The Midwives Model of Care™ works because pregnancy and birth are normal life events. The application of this model has been proven to reduce incidence of birth injury, trauma, and cesarean section. The Midwives Model of Care™ includes:

  • Monitoring the physical, psychological, and social well-being of the mother throughout the childbearing cycle
  • Providing the mother with individualized education, counseling, and prenatal care, continuous hands-on assistance during labor and delivery, and postpartum support
  • Minimizing technological interventions
  • Identifying and referring women who require obstetrical attention.

"If we want to find safe alternatives to obstetrics, we must rediscover midwifery. To rediscover midwifery is the same as giving back childbirth to women. And imagine the future if surgical teams were at the service of the midwives and the women instead of controlling them."

My Philosophy of Care

Because I believe women were created for pregnancy and birth, and that they are  both sacred and normal physiological processes, I am committed to respecting and protecting your birth space by allowing labor to take its normal course with limited interventions. This helps women birth naturally, safely, and confidently. Essential components of the holistic midwifery care that I provide include attentive, skilled, and evidence-based support. As your midwife, I am passionate about establishing a caring atmosphere and providing education that empowers you to be able to make your own decisions and creates a safe space for self-expression.

“However much we know about birth in general, we know nothing about a particular birth. We must let it unfold with its own uniqueness.”
